The grungy cover of 'How Does It Feel To Feel?' by The Creation (the '60s garage-psych band who'd given McGee's label its name) harked back to familiar sounds, but for the rest, Ride strode boldly forward from behind their habitual wall of feedback and, as they'd promised before, just let it flow. As we took our huddled flight into the Nineties, a bolt from nowhere, from Oxford, overturned the inherent pessimism in that optimism and gave us something to believe in. "...Despite their tender age, it was clear these guys had an acute sense of balance between good and evil, beauty/tunes and destruction noise. That balance shifted towards the macabre on the second track, 'Drive Blind', which at one point broke apart into a holocaust of feedback which, onstage, they'd often prolong for several eye-popping minutes. Again, though, through the darkness, the song was all ambition. Ride were at the wheel, window down, shades on, screeching gleefully toward the vanishing point of a new horizon, and who knew what was waiting beyond..."
